I believe the classroom environment has a vital, influential role in the holistic development of the students and educators. Also creating a supportive, safe working environment where the students can be stimulated and challenged with a sense of community. Working together the students will feel safe and comfortable to enhance their learning and strive to achieve their best.
NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Creating a natural, peaceful feel for the students to investigate and connect to their environment. By providing plants in the classroom and natural resources shows a growing appreciation and care for natural and constructed environments and it develops an awareness of the impact of human activity on environments I believe that nature helps students develop powers of observation, creativity and installs a sense
of peace and being at one with the world. With my Early years training I also believe nature creates a sense of calm that fosters language and collaborative skills. Also enhancing students cognitive development by improving their awareness, reasoning and observational skills.

CREATING RESPONSILBILTY
Students each have their own jobs and responsibilities in the classroom. This empowers students and unites them as a class. They are no longer looking out only for themselves, but for the good of the entire class.
Not only cleaning and taking care of the room but also writing dates on the whiteboard, taking care of the bulletin board/communication board, making sure it has correct information, also role taking at assembly. this creates a sense of ownership.

RESPECTING EACH OTHER AND THEMSELVES
Manchester primary introduced the Tribes program which have concepts that are explicitly taught and students are coached in skills needed to become co-operative learners. These sayings are displayed around the rooms to remind the students the promises they agreed to themselves and each other.

STRETCHING THE BODY AS WELL AS THE MIND
Movement plays a large factor in my classroom management. Students often misbehave when they are in need of a change of environment or activity.
In the morning and in between lessons I trialled stretching the body or face movements to either wake up or release tension. I also have seen in the younger levels the educators use movement/ hand eye coordination activities in the middle of a session, allowing the students to stretch their bodies and mind to refocus on their tasks.

CREATING A SENSE OF BELONGING
Creating a classroom into a community where each student feels a sense of belonging by sharing their achievement with their work. Another way to create a community within the class is placing photos of themselves around the room, as seen in picture. As a early years educator I had implemented something similar where the children displayed a self portrait with a description of their lives and future thoughts. This provided knowledge and confidence through self awareness for the children. Developing self identity, recognising themselves and respecting who they are and their fellow peers.
