Understand strategies for working effectively, sensitively and confidentially with parents/carers.
Effective engagement and developing a good relationships with parents/carers is an important part of a teacher’s role and can be very beneficial to both the students and the classroom environment. Creating a cooperative relationship will assist and enhance the students growth and overall wellbeing at the school.
The following are some practical strategies I learnt and practised during my time as an Early years educator. I will endeavour to apply these in my future teaching practice.
- have an open door policy for the classroom.
- be respectful of and courteous to parents/carers by calmly listening and take into consideration their concerns.
- consider parents’/carers’ perspectives when making decisions which have an impact on the education or
wellbeing of a student.
- take steps to make them feel welcome into your classroom such as warm greeting every morning and afternoon and encouraging them to step into the classroom to observe classroom display to know what is going on in the class.
- communicate and consult with parents/carers in a timely, understandable and sensitive manner
- encourage parents’/carers’ communication of what was happening to their child/children daily
- organize activities and invite parents/carers to participate and be a part of the students learning experiences.
